Muhos senior building inspector says he may be dismissed over Google logging interview

Senior building inspector Jultuz Änwär claims the municipality of Muhos threatens to fire him because he spoke to the media about Google's forest clearing.

Muhos' chief building inspector Jultuz Änwär warned that the municipality may dismiss him after he discussed Google's large-scale tree cutting in an interview. The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (LVV) recently ordered Google to stop construction at its data-center sites in Muhos and Kajaani because the required environmental impact assessment is incomplete. The original logging permission was issued by building inspector Eero Airaksinen in June, who later admitted uncertainty about the procedure. Änwär, who started his role after the permit was granted in early August, says technical manager Mikko Kari told him to resign or be fired, though Kari denies any link to the interview. Municipal council chair Jaakko Pellikka also suggested other factors are at play, and mayor Kimmo Hinno refused to comment on camera.

Why it matters
