Multiple-vehicle crash on M62 near Huddersfield forces eastbound closure and injures five
A multi-vehicle collision on the M62 eastbound near Huddersfield has closed the road and left five people needing medical care.
Early this morning, a serious collision involving multiple vehicles, including a car that rolled onto its roof, struck the eastbound M62 near Huddersfield between junctions 22 and 24. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed nine casualties, with five taken to hospital by Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The motorway has been shut to eastbound traffic, and National Highways deployed traffic officers to manage the incident.
Drivers are being directed onto a prescribed diversion that follows the A672, A58, A6142, A646, A629 and A643 before rejoining the M62 at junction 24. Recovery operations are underway, causing delays of at least half an hour for approaching traffic. Authorities continue to monitor the scene as emergency crews treat the injured.
