Mumbai doctor and mountaineer missing in Nepal with his wife during pilgrimage

Dr. Milind Chitley, a longtime Mumbai physician and adventure enthusiast, vanished in Nepal along with his wife Janhavi while on a Kailash Mansarovar trek.

A notice on the front door of Dr. Milind Chitley's ground-floor clinic in Andheri East announced a two-week closure for a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra that began on Aug 23. The physician, also an avid mountaineer, cyclist and founder of the adventure company Hills and Trails, led a group of 61 trekkers on the journey. He and his wife Janhavi have been missing since the trip started in Nepal, and no confirmation of their whereabouts has emerged.

Neighbours and patients, many unaware of the situation until recent reports, gathered to remember his medical care and community involvement. Chitley, a former president of Andheri Sports Club and member of the Himalayan Club, previously scaled over 23,000 ft on Mt. Kanchenjunga and participated in India's first civilian expedition above 8,000 m. The community continues to pray for the couple's safe return.
