Murdaugh defense cites unverified link between murder weapon and recent Allendale killing

At a hearing for Alex Murdaugh’s retrial, his counsel Jim Griffin introduced an unverified claim that a recent homicide in Allendale County may have involved a gun associated with the Murdaugh murders. Citing a report from FITSNews, Griffin requested that the state disclose any records that could serve as Brady evidence. He referenced prior testimony that shell casings from the.300 Blackout rifle used in the Murdaugh case matched those from the family’s shooting range, and suggested a similar match might exist for the Allendale case.

Lead prosecutor Creighton Waters said the allegation was new to him and would be looked into, noting he had not received any such information from SLED. Judge Debra McCaslin indicated the claim raised questions, directing Griffin to forward the material to the prosecutor. To date, SLED has reported no ballistics match linking the Allendale.300 Blackout firearm to other crimes, and no concrete evidence has been offered to substantiate the defense’s theory.
