Musician Chongtham Vikram Singh dies from severe injuries after alleged assault in Delhi

A forensic examination confirmed that Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh suffered extensive blunt-trauma, including fractures to the first-11th ribs on the left side and ribs six-nine on the right, as well as a large abdominal bleed and a 7 cm splenic tear. The injuries caused haemorrhagic shock, and Singh succumbed at 6.32 am on Sept 7 after being rushed to Holy Family Hospital following an assault at his Kilokari Ashram residence in southeast Delhi.

The attack, reported to have begun around 11.30 pm on Sept 6, involved eight assailants who kicked and punched him after he confronted noisy workers at a nearby dhaba. His son Yaiphaba witnessed the assault and raised the alarm. Police have arrested eight individuals, one of whom is a minor, and have secured photographs and video from the postmortem for the investigation. Singh was known for his work with popular Manipur bands and for teaching music in Delhi.
