Musk sets new Cybercab rollout dates, keeping MKBHD's wager hair intact
Elon Musk announced that Tesla's driverless Cybercab will begin commercial service in Florida, Nevada and other states soon, with California expected by mid-next year, leaving tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee's bet-related haircut still on hold.
Elon Musk told China Global Television Network that Tesla plans to launch commercial rides with its two-seat, steering-wheel-free Cybercab in Florida and Nevada shortly, adding that California should see service by the middle of next year. This schedule does not settle the public wager made by tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, who pledged to shave his head on camera if Tesla delivers the $30,000 robotaxi to regular buyers before the close of 2026.
The bet has generated extensive online speculation, with many AI-generated videos depicting Musk shaving Brownlee. Musk has referenced the challenge on X, noting Brownlee’s eagerness for the haircut. Brownlee recently said his hair remains safe for now, citing Tesla’s distance from a consumer-ready price point.
Additionally, Tesla must address an NHTSA audit query about its self-certification that the Cybercab meets federal safety standards. Neither Tesla nor Brownlee’s representatives responded to interview requests.
