Nadella urges AI development to prioritize humanity and broad access

Satya Nadella posted on X that AI research must be grounded in the principle of serving humanity and remaining under human control, otherwise its pursuit is unwarranted. He called for accelerating the spread of AI benefits so they reach diverse countries, communities and enterprises, insisting on a frontier ecosystem that nurtures both closed and open-source models. Nadella highlighted the need for firms to retain ownership of their tacit knowledge and to build continuous learning systems without reliance on a single AI vendor, allowing them to embed proprietary data into controllable models.

He welcomed deliberate pacing and research to ensure alignment, mentioning tools such as embedded evaluators to operationalize these goals. Citing recent calls from Sam Altman, Dario Amodei and Elon Musk for a global AI slowdown, Nadella said the development of superintelligence should not be monopolized but involve broad representation from academia, industry and governments. Microsoft plans to publish its code of conduct for public review as part of this approach.
