Nagaland-set drama 'Angh' premieres at Toronto Festival with Douglas Henshall

Director Theja Rio brings a story from the remote hills of Nagaland to the Toronto Film Festival, where 'Angh' competes in the Platform section as the only Indian selection. The narrative centers on a Konyak chief and his son, the last unbaptized villagers, whose lives are disrupted by an American missionary portrayed by Douglas Henshall. Filmed on 16mm, the cast includes Indigenous performers and explores the tension between traditional customs and introduced Christianity.

Rio, a graduate of the U.K.'s National Film and Television School, previously earned awards for a short version of the same title. The project is produced by Nancy Nisa Beso and Theja Rio, with Jungle Book Studio handling worldwide sales.
