South Carolina’s Rep. Nancy Mace, a former gubernatorial candidate, engaged in a heated exchange on X after a user accused her of neglecting her duties. She replied that she works every day for her district and will continue until her term concludes on January 3, adding a comment about women multitasking. A Community Note attached to her one outlet revealed that she was absent for votes on August 31, 2026, and July 23, following a five-week congressional recess.
Internet users ridiculed the discrepancy, citing her recent podcast launch and tattoo showcase as distractions. In a statement to the Daily Beast, Mace argued that the job involves daily constituent assistance, not just floor votes. House Clerk records confirm she has a “Not Voting” record on 104 bills this year, far exceeding the typical less-than-10-percent absentee rate among members. The seat she will vacate in January is set to be contested by Democrat Nancy Lacore and Republican Jenny Honeycutt.
