Nandan Nilekani proposes AI-generated exam papers to curb question-paper leaks
At the Bloomberg Economic Forum in New Delhi, Nandan Nilekani suggested using AI to create exam papers at the last minute, aiming to eliminate the market for leaked question sets.
During his remarks at the Bloomberg Economic Forum in New Delhi, Nandan Nilekani outlined a plan to use artificial intelligence to assemble exam papers moments before they are administered. By maintaining a massive repository of questions and generating each test on demand, the system would eliminate the fixed paper that currently fuels a black market for leaked exams. Nilekani emphasized that this would remove the economic motive behind selling question papers.
The suggestion comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi tasked Nilekani with leading a high-level panel to overhaul India’s examination system, a move prompted by the NEET-UG paper leak that forced former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down. Nilekani’s AI-centric solution is presented as a way to restore public confidence in national testing.
Why it matters
If adopted, AI-generated exams could stop paper leaks that undermine the credibility of India’s education assessments.
