Nanni Moretti’s New Romance ‘It Will Happen Tonight’ Secures Wide Global Pre-Sales Ahead of Venice

Nanni Moretti’s upcoming film “It Will Happen Tonight,” starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, has been pre-sold to numerous territories by Playtime before its Venice competition debut.

Veteran filmmaker Nanni Moretti is set to launch his new romance “It Will Happen Tonight” at the Venice Film Festival, marking his first Lido competition entry in more than two decades. The picture, starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, draws loosely from Israeli author Eshkol Nevo’s short-story collection “Hungry Heart.” International sales agent Playtime has already secured pre-sales in a long list of territories, from Germany and Austria to Brazil, Taiwan and Ukraine.

Co-producers Sacher Film, Fandango and RAI Cinema teamed with Pan-European indie Vuelta, whose French arm Pan Distribution helped arrange the deals. Playtime co-CEO Nicolas Brigaud-Robert praised Moretti’s distinctive take on Italian romance and expressed confidence that both new and longtime fans will be captivated. The film will compete at Venice’s Lido, the first such appearance for Moretti since his Cannes successes.

Why it matters

The strong pre-sale momentum highlights global appetite for Moretti’s work and signals a high-profile entry at Venice.
