Napa winery that rebuilt after fire files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Signorello Estate, a Napa Valley winery that reconstructed its tasting room after the 2017 Atlas fire, has entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Signorello Estate, an iconic Napa winery that survived the 2017 Atlas fire by rebuilding its tasting room as a subterranean “cave” facility, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection along with seven affiliated entities. The court documents indicate the company believes its liabilities fall between $10 million and $50 million and that the estate holds perishable inventory needing urgent attention. Ray Signorello Jr. financed the $20 million reconstruction largely through insurance proceeds that covered only a quarter of the costs, supplemented by additional financing.

The winery reopened in 2024 with tasting fees markedly higher than the regional average. The bankruptcy filing also mentions a pending foreclosure sale to address outstanding debt, though specific loan amounts are not disclosed.

Why it matters

The filing highlights financial strain on Napa wineries amid a broader industry downturn.
