NASA launches State Hub program to train the next generation of aerospace technicians

On Sept. 15, 2026 NASA kicked off its State Hubs for Skilled Technical Workforce program at Space Center Houston, bringing together hub awardees, agency officials and federal and state partners. Elaine Ho, associate administrator for NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement, emphasized the accelerating space economy and the importance of aligning education with industry needs. The seven hubs—located in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas and Utah—will each design programs that reflect their local aerospace sectors.

Participants discussed challenges such as fragmented coordination between industry and educational institutions, scaling of job programs, and public misconceptions about manufacturing roles. In the next months the hubs will finalize and deliver tools, resources and training pathways to connect students with technical skills required for future aerospace missions. The effort aims to build a pipeline of career-ready workers to sustain America’s leadership in space.
