NASA partners with the NFL for a nationwide space-inspired game day tour
NASA announced a new partnership with the NFL to feature flyovers, astronaut appearances and fan activities at selected games across the United States.
NASA and the National Football League have launched a joint initiative that will place NASA’s fleet of research aircraft over NFL stadiums during the upcoming season. The Inspiration Tour will start with a flyover at the Pittsburgh Steelers versus Atlanta Falcons game and will continue with appearances in Baltimore, Philadelphia and the New York Jets-Cleveland Browns matchup in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Astronauts will meet fans and the agency will use the platform to highlight its Moon return, Moon Base plans, fission-powered spacecraft and aeronautics research.
The aircraft demonstrations also serve to keep the fleet operational and demonstrate technologies that could influence future commercial aviation. The series of events will lead to MAX POWER, a two-day showcase of next-generation air and space technologies held near Kennedy Space Center in early November. NASA officials say the collaboration aims to inspire the next generation to look toward space and innovation.
