NASA prepares to launch Roman Space Telescope for dark‑energy, dark‑matter and exoplanet surveys

NASA is ready to send the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope into orbit in the coming days. The observatory will use a suite of infrared detectors and a coronagraph to conduct wide‑field surveys that are expected to map the large‑scale structure of the universe and hunt for exoplanets, including rogue worlds. Its camera provides a field of view about 100 times wider than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, enabling rapid scans of billions of galaxies and thousands of planetary systems. Scientific operations are slated to begin in early 2027 after the spacecraft reaches its destination beyond Earth’s orbit.
