NASA to Reveal LunaRecycle Challenge Winners at Alabama Engineering Showcase
NASA will announce the final winners of its LunaRecycle Challenge on Aug. 28 at the University of Alabama’s engineering campus, with up to 14 finalist teams presenting their concepts.
On Friday, Aug. 28, NASA will host the concluding phase of its LunaRecycle Challenge at the University of Alabama Lee Styslinger College of Engineering in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Fourteen finalist teams will exhibit their recycling system prototypes and digital twin models designed to manage non-metabolic waste on future lunar bases. The event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT in H.M.
Comer Hall, will include remarks from NASA and university officials about upcoming lunar initiatives. Following the showcase, winners will be announced at noon, with a prize pool of $1.325 million allocated to top prototypes, digital twins, technical achievement categories, and a $25,000 People’s Choice award. Media interested in covering the event must RSVP to the NASA Marshall newsroom by 3 p.m. on Aug. 27. The challenge, managed by NASA’s Centennial Challenges program, has attracted record participation since its 2024 launch.
