National Assembly adjourns over quorum shortage, passes State Life Insurance bill

The National Assembly suspended Thursday’s sitting after a quorum of 88 members was not reached, but still approved the Life Insurance (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill.

Thursday’s National Assembly meeting was cut short when a headcount revealed fewer than the mandated 88 members were present, prompting Abdul Qadir Patel to suspend proceedings until the following morning. Despite the interruption, legislators passed the Life Insurance (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, establishing State Life Insurance Company Limited as a statutory entity. In question hour, Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry clarified that the Capital Development Authority had only removed illegal structures in Islamabad’s Sector E-12.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi reported the recovery of over 200,000 kanals of encroached land and announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would inaugurate the first 480-kilometre phase of the ML-1 project. PTI MNA Syed Rafiullah highlighted that families in Karachi’s Malir district remain unrehabilitated after displacement by the project. PTI MNA Shehryar Afridi criticised the handling of Haj pilgrimage queries and warned that private organisers were charging Rs4 million to Rs5 million for packages.
