National Bank Overhauls Tech Stack, Boosts AI Integration and Digital Banking Share
The National Bank has completed a multi-year technology overhaul, replacing its entire tech stack and reporting major cost reductions while moving the vast majority of transactions off-site.
Over the past five years the National Bank invested heavily in technology, ultimately deciding to replace its whole tech stack despite the associated time, effort and risk. The change has delivered sizable operating-cost savings while the bank continued normal service. Currently, roughly 98% of transactions occur outside physical branches, and the number of peripheral systems has fallen from around five hundred to about fifty.
The bank’s digital channels hold about 30% market share and its embedded-banking initiatives are close to 50%. More than four thousand employees have been trained in various AI specializations. Looking ahead to 2030, the bank plans to place AI at the core of daily operations, shifting from a centralized to a more decentralized model where AI handles repetitive, data-intensive tasks and staff focus on complex judgment and customer relationships.
