National Theatre unveils star-studded 2027 season with eight world premieres

The National Theatre’s 2027 season comprises 18 productions across its three venues, anchored by high-profile talent including Paul Mescal, Emma Corrin and Emilia Clarke. Mescal will appear in a repertory block that moves from Death of a Salesman to A Whistle in the Dark, a co-production with Ireland’s Abbey Theatre, while Corrin stars in a revival of Suddenly Last Summer directed by Michael Grandage. Clarke makes her debut in David Hare’s Plenty under the direction of Richard Eyre.

The slate also introduces eight world premieres, among them James Graham’s Major, Moira Buffini’s The Great Indaba, and new works by Carmen Nasr and Natasha Gordon. Additional highlights feature a new musical by Phyllida Lloyd, an immersive piece by Punchdrunk, and a touring adaptation of Ballet Shoes. Digital expansion will see more than 25 titles added to the National Theatre at Home platform and a free YouTube stream of The Jungle Book. Executives Indhu Rubasingham and Kate Varah emphasized the programme’s global reach, noting audiences now span 184 countries.
