NATO Multinational Brigade Begins Largest Deployment Drill in Latvia
The NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia kicked off the Resolute Reforger 2026 exercise, involving roughly 3,000 troops and 1,000 pieces of equipment.
From Oct. 26 to Nov. 2, the NATO Multinational Brigade, a Canadian-led formation stationed in Latvia, is conducting the Resolute Reforger 2026 exercises, the most extensive deployment drill it has ever run. Around 3,000 troops and 1,000 equipment units will be moved across roads and railways to assess long-range mobility, logistics and command coordination with the Latvian army. Canadian CH-146 Griffon helicopters will operate from the training sites, which will be cleared and vacated by Nov. 8.
The drill reflects NATO's effort to bolster the eastern flank amid growing Russian drone incursions, airspace violations and hybrid threats. Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has warned that NATO forces on the frontier are prepared for a swift response to any Russian aggression. The exercise underscores the alliance's commitment to rapid reinforcement of the Baltic states.
Why it matters
The drill demonstrates NATO's readiness to defend the Baltic region against escalating Russian threats.
