Nearly $2 Billion Floods 2026 Election Cycle as Six Super-PACs Dominate Spending
Outside groups have poured almost $2 billion into the 2026 election cycle, with six super-PACs each spending over $60 million and accounting for more than a third of total out-of-campaign expenditures.
According to OpenSecrets, outside groups have injected nearly $2 billion into one outlet election cycle, with weeks of spending still ahead. The six top spenders—Senate Leadership Fund, Texas PAC, No Going Back PAC, WinSenate PAC, Congressional Leadership Fund and Americans for Prosperity Action—have each exceeded $60 million, together contributing $678 million, or more than a third of the $1.5 billion total tracked. Sixteen groups now account for over half of all outside expenditures, and conservative committees dominate with $1.1 billion versus $727 million for liberal groups.
Senate races attract the most money, highlighted by the Texas contest that has generated almost $287 million, largely funded by the newly formed Texas PAC. Single-issue and industry-focused super-PACs, including crypto-aligned Fairshake, Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress, have also amassed sizable sums, underscoring a growing diversification of spending sources.
Why it matters
The concentration of billions in outside spending shows how a few wealthy groups can heavily influence U.S. elections and policy outcomes.
