Proposed mining investments across Andalucia total almost €3 billion and are projected to generate about 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Across Andalucia, mining firms have outlined projects that together represent close to €3 billion in capital spending and could support roughly 5,000 jobs, both directly and through related supply chains. In Seville, Minera Los Frailes aims to restart the Aznalcóllar complex with a €450 million first phase, while Cobre Las Cruces proposes an underground mine and refinery costing €850 million. Huelva’s Atalaya Mining plans multiple developments around Riotinto, including the €174 million Masa Valverde project.
Cordoba’s Elementos is advancing a tin mine that could supply about 10 percent of EU tin demand, and Granada’s Minas de Alquife project is valued at €250 million. Environmental activists have staged protests over planned water releases into the Guadalquivir, and several initiatives still require additional authorisations.
Why it matters
