Nearly 500 Yemeni refugees rescued and landed in Djibouti's Obock

Minister of economy and finance Ilyas Dawaleh announced that nearly 500 Yemeni refugees, many of them women and children, were brought ashore in the coastal town of Obock after being rescued from vessels stranded without fuel. The Djiboutian navy and coast guard conducted the sea rescue. The United Nations International Organization for Migration notes that the recent escalation of conflict in Yemen has displaced at least 46,000 people.

Yemen's Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps reported that on 8 September alone, 1,367 families were displaced in the provinces of Taiz, Al-Hudaydah and Lahj. This marks the first direct humanitarian impact of the Yemen war reaching Djibouti's shores. Authorities are monitoring the situation as the influx continues.
