Nebraska police captain placed on leave after toddler left locked in car during fishing trip
Lincoln police captain Mayde McGuire was suspended after her 2-year-old was found locked in a vehicle for about half an hour while she and partner Mary Tobiassen were fishing at Pawnee Lake.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, a Lincoln police captain and her partner were fishing at Pawnee Lake when a passerby spotted a 2-year-old child locked inside a parked vehicle. The toddler was rescued after being trapped for at least 28 minutes, and the temperature outside was reported as 78 degrees. Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner emphasized the rapid rise of heat inside cars, noting the risk to children.
The captain, Mayde McGuire, registered a.108 blood-alcohol content on a breath test, and both she and her partner, Mary Tobiassen, were charged with misdemeanor child abuse. McGuire was cited and placed on leave from the Lincoln Police Department pending further investigation. The sheriff’s office has not yet provided additional comment.
