Nebraska Senate hopeful Dan Osborn taps progressive forum for near-$9K fundraiser
Independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn raised almost $9,000 through an ActBlue drive promoted by the left-leaning forum Democratic Underground, whose members have posted extremist remarks about public figures.
Nebraska’s independent Senate contender Dan Osborn secured $8,844 of a $9,000 goal after the progressive online community Democratic Underground promoted his ActBlue donation page, an unusual departure from its standard “Support Democrats” policy. The forum’s discussion boards have featured extremist commentary, including wishes for Donald Trump’s death, applause for the killing of Charlie Kirk, and derisive jokes about the attempted assassination of Rep. Steve Scalise.
Osborn, challenging Republican incumbent Pete Ricketts, also benefits from the Nebraska Democratic Party’s endorsement and past financial backing from figures such as Elizabeth Warren. Critics note that 83 % of his recent contributions come from outside Nebraska, with California leading the donor list. The fundraiser highlights ongoing questions about Osborn’s connections to Democratic operatives, fundraising firms like Fight Agency, and large-scale money streams tied to groups associated with Chuck Schumer and George Soros-linked entities. His campaign positions include opposition to the SAVE America Act, support for gun-control measures, and a pledge to caucus with Democrats if elected.
Why it matters
The fundraiser shows how a nominally independent candidate is receiving significant support from a partisan online community, raising questions about campaign transparency.
