Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar claims proclamation to oust ruler was signed under duress
Menteri Besar Ismail says he was forced to sign a document removing Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar and has filed a police report.
In a recent statement, Menteri Besar Ismail declared that he signed a proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan against his will and under duress. He filed a police report around 6 p.m. the previous day to prompt an inquiry. Four undangs held a press conference, displaying a document dated Aug 3 that they said was signed by Ismail and the chieftains in accordance with Article 10(2) of the 1959 Constitution of Negeri Sembilan.
The chieftains maintained the proclamation was valid, but the state government contended that the document does not follow the procedures set out in Article 10, rendering it unconstitutional and unenforceable. The dispute centers on the legality of the removal process, and further developments are expected.
