Nepal Refuses Foreign Rescue Teams While Accepting Financial Aid Amid Flood Crisis

Facing one of its worst flood disasters in years, Nepal rejected proposals from India, China and several other states to send specialized search-and-rescue squads, asserting that its own security agencies can manage the effort. Officials referenced the chaotic coordination of foreign teams after the 2015 earthquake as a key reason for the centralized approach, a stance supported by the Nepali Army and police. An emergency response team within the foreign ministry will coordinate rescue, information verification and consular assistance for missing foreigners.
While foreign rescue units are barred, Kathmandu has opened a one-door channel for financial contributions via the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and plans to request further aid for rebuilding. India has already delivered more than 47.5 tonnes of relief goods and offered bridge components, and the United States, United Kingdom, World Bank and Asian Development Bank have announced monetary support.
