Nepali Congress suspends vice-president and secretary vote count pending digital entry of results
The Nepali Congress halted the tally for its vice-president and general secretary races after candidates demanded that all already-counted ballots be entered into the computer system.
During the Nepali Congress' 15th General Convention, the vote count for the vice-president and general secretary positions was suspended after candidates demanded that all ballots counted to date be logged into the party's computer system. Counting, which started around 10 p.m. on Saturday, had produced results for only 1,330 votes before the pause. Candidates argued that roughly 700 additional votes had been counted but not disclosed, prompting officials to input the missing data.
The party agreed that counting will only continue once the digital entry is complete. Preliminary figures show Chandra Kant Bhandari and Madhu Acharya leading the open vice-president race, while Binod Kumar Chaudhary tops the inclusive vice-president slot, and Pradeep Paudel leads the open general secretary contest.
Why it matters
The delay highlights internal demands for transparency and digital verification in a major party's leadership election.
