Netanyahu orders Israeli forces to target regime change in Iran

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told graduating IDF officers that he has instructed the army, Mossad and other security agencies to work toward overthrowing Iran’s government to eliminate its nuclear threat.

At a ceremony for new IDF officers, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a directive for the Israel Defense Forces, Mossad and other security branches to pursue the overthrow of Iran’s regime, describing it as the sole solution to the nuclear danger posed by Tehran. He asserted that as long as Iran continues its weapons program, Israel faces an existential threat. Netanyahu claimed President Donald Trump supports the effort, saying the U.S. is ready to act alongside Israel.

He also referenced past Israeli strikes that killed Ali Khamenei and warned that Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtava Khamenei, is reviving the nuclear project. Defense Minister Israel Katz echoed the hardline stance, warning that any Iranian attack around the Oct. 27 Knesset elections would be met with overwhelming retaliation. The statements signal a heightened rhetoric of regional confrontation and a potential shift in Israel’s security policy.

Why it matters

The directive signals a possible escalation in Israel-Iran tensions, affecting regional stability and international security.
