Netflix commissions new series adaptation of classic western Lonesome Dove

Netflix has ordered a series version of Larry McMurtry's novel Lonesome Dove, with Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart as co-showrunners.

Netflix confirmed it is developing a series adaptation of Larry McMurtry's 1985 Pulitzer-prize-winning western novel Lonesome Dove. The series will be overseen by co-showrunners Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who previously collaborated on the limited series East of Eden. They will also write and serve as executive producers alongside a team from Teton Ridge Entertainment, the rights holder, which includes Thomas Tull, Jillian Share, Jen Gorton, Jon Jashni, Diana Ossana and Curtis McMurtry.

Netflix's head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, Jinny Howe, praised the creators' ability to capture the story's expansive characters and emotional depth. The series will follow former Texas Rangers Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call on a final, dangerous cattle drive from the Rio Grande to Montana. The production aims to introduce the iconic tale to a new generation of viewers.
