Netflix India expands comedy lineup with new films, series and stand-up specials

Netflix India announced a broader comedy slate this season, adding films, scripted series, stand-up specials and unscripted formats.

Netflix India is positioning comedy as a long-term pillar, according to Monika Shergill, the platform’s VP of content, who said the genre can satisfy many audience needs. The new season opens with the franchise film “Dhamaal 4” and the multi-family comedy “Chumbak,” followed by “The Great Indian Kapil Show” Season 5, Bhuvan Bam’s “Dhindora” Season 2, and a fresh stand-up special from Sumukhi Suresh titled “Hoemonal.” Shergill pointed to the five Vir Das specials, especially the International Emmy-winning “Landing,” as evidence of Netflix’s diverse comedic offerings.

She noted that viewers seek both familiar comfort and surprising new voices, and that the platform evaluates comic talent on distinct perspective, strong concept and growth potential. Shergill also emphasized that Indian humor does not need to be diluted for global audiences, citing past successes as proof that specificity can resonate worldwide.
