Netflix revealed an instant documentary titled “The Decoy Plane,” which examines the July episode in Turkey when President Donald Trump slipped off Air Force One via a catering truck and boarded a separate military aircraft. The switch occurred as the presidential delegation returned from a NATO summit, and journalists on the original flight were left unaware until the Secret Service ordered them to dim the cabin lights.
The program features on-the-ground footage and interviews with one outlet chief White House photographer Alex Brandon, who noted the unprecedented sight of catering vehicles alongside the presidential jet, and one outlet national-security correspondent Gram Slattery, who described the heightened alert among the press. One outlet's investigation suggested the maneuver was intended to evade an Iranian assassination attempt, overturning the prior narrative that Trump traveled to the United Kingdom on Air Force One. The documentary premieres on Netflix on September 4.
