Nevada swing voters show openness to socialist candidates despite economic worries
In Nevada focus groups, most swing voters said they would not automatically reject politicians who identify as socialist.
One outlet observed two virtual focus groups of Nevada swing voters on a Tuesday night, gathering twelve participants who previously voted for Biden in 2020 and Trump in 2024. Ten of them, including independents, Republicans and Democrats, indicated they would not reflexively dismiss a candidate labeling themselves as socialist. Respondents cited concerns about rising debt, inflation and job insecurity as factors making socialist ideas more appealing, though some warned that far-left positions felt too radical.
The discussions also explored how voters differentiate between traditional Democrats and democratic socialists, with mixed understandings of the terms. The sessions were run by messaging firm Engagious and research group Nelson Recruiting, partners of one outlet’s monthly Swing Voter Project.
