New Air India CEO Tewolde Gebremariam pledges safety and operational excellence
Incoming chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam told Air India staff he will prioritize safety and aim to improve on-time performance.
At a town-hall meeting, Tewolde Gebremariam announced his upcoming appointment as Air India’s chief executive and managing director, pending final security approval. Speaking with chairman N Chandrasekaran and departing CEO Campbell Wilson, he pledged to make safety the airline’s top priority and to empower employees to raise issues without hesitation. Gebremariam stressed that operational excellence—on-time flights, reliable baggage delivery and well-maintained cabins—is essential for a positive passenger experience.
He called for collective commitment from the workforce to drive meaningful change. Chandrasekaran reflected on recent challenges, including geopolitical disruptions and the AI171 incident, and underscored the importance of trust, compliance and cost discipline moving forward.
