New documentary revives disputed claims as Lucy Letby seeks appeal through CCRC

Lucy Letby has twice been denied relief from her convictions for killing seven infants and attempting to kill seven more, while a recent Channel 5 and The Sun documentary puts forward five new challenges to the case. The program features an unnamed senior consultant who argues the evidence was weak and that Letby was used as a scapegoat for systemic failures at the Countess of Chester Hospital. It also claims undisclosed insulin test data and questions the plausibility of air-embolism as a cause of death, citing vascular surgeon Colin Ferguson.

An email from Dr Ravi Jayaram contradicts his earlier testimony about Letby’s involvement in a baby’s collapse. Letby’s advocates have forwarded a dossier of about 30 expert opinions to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, which will independently assess whether the case merits referral to the Court of Appeal, though no timetable has been set.
