Former senator John Sununu announced he will not attend the upcoming Republican midterm convention, even as he leads the New Hampshire Senate primary race.
John Sununu, who served in the U.S. House from 1997 to 2003 and the Senate from 2003 to 2009, said he does not plan to attend the Republican midterm election convention opening in Dallas. He is competing in the New Hampshire Republican Senate primary against former Massachusetts senator and ex-U.S. ambassador Scott Brown, with the primary set for Sept. 8, just before the convention starts. Polls aggregated show Sununu holding a 33-point lead over Brown, while his projected general-election contest against Democrat Chris Pappas is statistically even, with Pappas holding a slight edge.

Sununu’s decision to skip the event comes amid a busy political calendar and a competitive Senate race in the Granite State.
