New intercepted audio suggests possible pay-for-help scheme in Garlasco murder case
An intercepted recording released on Rai Tre features Andrea Sempio claiming a system existed where money could secure police assistance.
During a Rai Tre broadcast, an intercepted phone call was played in which Andrea Sempio, a suspect in the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi, mentions a system that could provide police assistance for payment, naming Silvio Sapone as the contact. Sapone, who previously led the Polizia Giudiziaria in Pavia, has consistently rejected accusations of facilitating such a scheme. The audio emerges amid renewed scrutiny of the case, which was reopened in 2017 and later archived, and comes as prosecutors consider whether to bring Sempio to trial again.
Investigators also note connections between Sapone, former Pavia chief prosecutor Mario Venditti and other law-enforcement figures, including Marshal Giuseppe Spoto. While Venditti has been cleared of corruption charges, the inquiry into possible police misconduct remains open. The developments keep the Garlasco murder investigation active and under public attention.
