New Israeli App Aims to Shield IDF Veterans from Foreign Arrest Attempts

Israeli advocacy organization Shurat HaDin unveiled a new application called Shachpatz, meaning “bullet-proof vest,” to protect former IDF personnel from overseas detention efforts. The tool consolidates travel advisories from the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the IDF, provides legal information, emergency diplomatic contacts, and a pre-travel checklist. Shurat HaDin has also organized a “war room” of more than 600 attorneys across 17 countries ready to intervene.

Its president, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, said pro-Palestinian groups like Hind Rajab and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights are actively pursuing arrest warrants, especially in nations that apply universal jurisdiction. The app lets users report incidents and share warnings, creating a community that can alert each other to hostile environments. While the app has been downloaded by thousands, it has not yet been used in a real arrest case. Darshan-Leitner argues the initiative is a form of self-defense to prevent legal actions that could deter reservists from traveling or serving.
