New Jersey seafood firm recalls almost 333 pounds of tuna over histamine toxin

Buckhead Meat Company, doing business as Trinity Seafood in Lakewood, New Jersey, began recalling roughly 333 pounds of tuna after the state health department reported high scombrotoxin levels in two samples. The company voluntarily started the recall on July 24, and the FDA formally designated it a Class II recall on September 16, reflecting a potential for reversible health effects. The tuna, sold in various case sizes and marked with code 0004255, was shipped to retailers in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Scombrotoxin can cause scombroid poisoning, with symptoms that may mimic an allergic reaction and, in severe cases, affect vision or breathing.
