New Jersey teacher sentenced to 12 years for sexual abuse of teen student

Allison Havemann-Niedrach, a former special-education instructor at Freehold Intermediate School in New Jersey, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old student during his eighth-grade year. The abuse spanned six months in 2024 and involved frequent texting, physical touching, and the teacher’s car rides with the boy. The victim delivered a tearful statement in court, describing the relationship as a “nightmare” and saying he once blamed himself.

Judge Jill G. O’Malley emphasized the trauma inflicted, noting the teen had contemplated suicide before disclosing the abuse. Under the plea agreement, Havemann-Niedrach must serve at least 85% of her sentence, register as a sex offender, and is barred from contacting the victim or his family. Her teaching licenses have been revoked.
