New Jersey teen indicted for fatal e-bike hit-and-run after alleged stalking

Vincent Battiloro, now 18, was indicted by a grand jury for the first-degree murders of two 17-year-old girls who were struck while riding e-bikes in September 2025.

A grand jury has charged Vincent Battiloro, a former Garwood resident and the son of an ex-police officer, with first-degree murder in the deaths of two Cranford High School seniors, Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas. The teenagers were riding e-bikes in September 2025 when Battiloro, who had been accused of stalking Niotis for months, accelerated his black Jeep to 70 mph in a 25-mph zone and struck them from behind. After the impact, he allegedly fled the area.

The case, which remained under juvenile jurisdiction initially, was transferred to adult court, exposing Battiloro to a possible 30-year sentence. Attorneys for the victims emphasized the families' hope for a public trial to bring clarity to the prolonged investigation. The indictment marks the first major legal step since the fatal hit-and-run.

Why it matters

The case highlights serious concerns about teen stalking, reckless driving and the legal handling of juvenile-to-adult crime transitions.
