New law bans cash payments for courier deliveries, imposes double-value fines
A draft bill will soon require all courier shipments to be paid electronically, with cash transactions penalised at twice the transaction amount.
The Ministry of National Economy and Finance has placed a draft law under public consultation that mandates electronic payment for any courier delivery, regardless of the amount. Companies that accept cash will face a fine equal to double the value of the payment. Before the rule takes effect, a ministerial decree will specify which natural persons are exempt, mirroring existing exemptions for electronic spending requirements.
Why it matters
It forces the delivery industry to shift to digital payments, increasing tax compliance and reducing cash-handling risks.
