New LPG cylinder rules tighten Aadhaar checks and affect prices for households and businesses
From early November, stricter Aadhaar authentication will be required for subsidised LPG refills, while commercial cylinder prices are set to change after the latest oil marketing company announcement.
Starting in early November, the government will enforce tighter Aadhaar-based e-KYC for anyone seeking subsidised LPG cylinder refills, affecting both household and commercial customers of providers like Indane, HP Gas and Bharatgas. Consumers who have not completed the biometric verification may be barred from booking subsidised cylinders and will only be able to purchase 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders at regular market prices.
Oil marketing companies will release the new commercial cylinder price after their monthly review, following a recent increase for a 19-kg cylinder in Delhi. The price of the standard 14.2-kg domestic cylinder has not changed in recent months, but rates vary by city, so users should confirm local prices before ordering. The e-KYC requirement was mandated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and became effective on 1 October 2026; those already verified are exempt from re-verification. Verification can be completed via provider apps, local distributors, or at the time of cylinder delivery.
Why it matters
The new authentication rule could disrupt LPG supply for many households unless they complete Aadhaar verification.
