New Mexico sues Epstein's former lawyer and accountant over alleged cover-up

New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez filed a lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime attorney Darren Indyke and his accountant Richard Kahn, accusing them of hiding the financier’s sex-trafficking activities at his Zorro Ranch.

Attorney General Raul Torrez of New Mexico announced a civil action against Darren Indyke, who served as Jeffrey Epstein’s attorney for about twenty years, and Richard Kahn, his accountant. The complaint asserts that the two professionals were aware of the sexual exploitation of minors at Epstein’s Zorro Ranch near Santa Fe and participated in a scheme to hide the operation. Indyke and Kahn have previously testified before a congressional panel, denying knowledge of the abuse.

The state’s filing also aims to prevent them from collecting any funds from Epstein’s estate. Epstein took his own life in August 2019 while held in a federal detention center in New York, awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. His former girlfriend and close associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a 20-year sentence after a 2021 conviction for similar offenses.

Why it matters

The case could limit how Epstein’s estate compensates victims and hold his close advisors accountable.

CENTER

  • explosive new lawsuit
  • racketeering and trafficking charges
