New muftis appointed for Xanthi and Komotini following ministerial proposal

The Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports named Sioukris Serif Damadoglu as mufti of Xanthi and Bilal Kara Halil as mufti of Komotini, each for a five-year term.

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports finalized the selection of new muftis for the regions of Xanthi and Komotini after Sofia Zacharaki's recommendation. Sioukris Serif Damadoglu, born in 1965 in Sidiro, Evros, and educated in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, was appointed to the Xanthi muftiate. Bilal Kara Halil, born in 1980 in Pahni, Xanthi, and trained in Egypt and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, received the Komotini post.

Both appointments are for five years with one possible extension, succeeding the recent placement of Emin Serif in Didymoteicho. Their extensive experience in Islamic scholarship and community service is expected to guide the Muslim populations of Thrace.
