New multilingual program launches in Algarve to support women with breast cancer

A Portuguese initiative called Beyond Breast Cancer will hold its first session on 2 October at the Longevity Hotel in Alvor, offering multilingual education and support for women and caregivers.

The Mamativa Association has launched Beyond Breast Cancer, a program designed to give women with breast cancer and their caregivers in the Algarve reliable health information and peer support. Recognising language barriers faced by many expatriates, the initiative will employ a real-time translation solution, a first in Portugal, allowing attendees to understand educational sessions in their preferred language. The opening session is scheduled for 2 October at 4 PM in the Longevity Hotel, Alvor, and will bring together medical oncologists, surgeons, physiotherapists and psychologists to cover topics from diagnosis to post-treatment quality of life.

Participants will have opportunities for questions, discussion and sharing personal experiences. The project aims to boost health literacy, confidence and community connections for women navigating breast cancer far from their home support networks. Further events are planned across the Algarve to continue this multidisciplinary outreach.
