New Orleans vehicle attack linked to U.S. support for Israel in Gaza
A Texas-born former soldier drove an electric pickup into crowds on Bourbon Street, killing 14 and wounding over 50 before being shot dead, and investigators say his motive was retaliation for U.S. backing of Israel’s war in Gaza.
In the early hours of January 1, 2025, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran from Texas, used a rented electric Ford F-150 Lightning to strike a crowd of revelers on Bourbon Street, resulting in 14 fatalities and more than 50 injuries. He fled the vehicle, brandished a firearm, engaged police in a brief shootout and was killed by officers. FBI counterterrorism officials later labeled him “100 percent inspired” by ISIS, noting an ISIS flag found in the truck and his online support for the group.
