New Padres owners announce bonus pool for all staff after sale

The incoming ownership group of the San Diego Padres will fund a bonus for every full-time and part-time employee following the completion of the franchise sale.

The San Diego Padres have officially moved to new owners, a partnership headed by businessman Jose E. Feleciano and Kwanza Jones. Prior to the handover, the outgoing Seidler family organized a bonus pool that will be distributed to every full-time and part-time employee of the franchise. Staff were notified via email that the payouts would occur after the ownership transfer was completed on Monday.

Former chairman John Seidler expressed that the bonus acknowledges the dedication of the team’s workforce throughout the family’s tenure. The $3.9 billion transaction, first disclosed in May, was formally approved by the league on August 17. At an introductory press conference at Petco Park, Jones emphasized the new owners’ commitment to the organization.

Why it matters

It shows the new owners' immediate commitment to staff morale during a major franchise transition.
