New Park City Cancer Center Expands Local Treatment Options, Cuts Travel Time for Patients
A new cancer center opened at Park City Hospital, increasing infusion bays from four to 18 and adding radiation therapy, giving regional patients a nearby treatment option.
Park City Hospital unveiled an expanded cancer center on Thursday, boosting its infusion capacity from four to 18 chairs and introducing on-site radiation equipment. The upgrade aims to serve patients from Summit and Wasatch counties, the Uintah Basin and surrounding areas, dramatically shortening travel times for many who once faced two-hour trips to Intermountain Medical Center. Local residents, such as 66-year-old Jim Becker, praised the new center as a "game changer" that will ease the physical and emotional strain of treatment.
Medical oncologist Clarke Low highlighted the importance of delivering high-quality care close to patients' homes, while surgical oncologist Tawnya Bowles emphasized the value of daily radiation being available locally. Hospital president Lori Weston stressed the goal of providing coordinated, compassionate support throughout the cancer journey, and staff anticipate the 18 infusion chairs will fill quickly as demand grows.
Why it matters
It gives rural Utah patients faster, less stressful access to comprehensive cancer treatment.
