New rules will limit subsidy eligibility for many allergy medicines

The Danish Medicines Agency has issued a decision tightening subsidy rules for allergy drugs. Under the new policy, subsidies will be granted only to defined patient groups, while others will no longer qualify. Affected individuals must obtain a new prescription from their general practitioner for a different subsidised medication.

If a patient suffers adverse reactions or cannot switch to the alternative, the GP may request a one-off subsidy on their behalf. The revisions cover a range of products, including nasal sprays, eye drops, tablets and capsules. Several well-known brands will lose subsidy eligibility under the new framework.
